Attractions

Mala Duba’s central location on the Makarska Riviera makes it an ideal base for exploring some of the most spectacular destinations in southern Croatia and beyond. From towering mountain peaks to medieval UNESCO cities, there is something for every type of traveller.

Nearby — Day Trips

Hvar Island

Croatia’s sunniest island lies just 4.5 km offshore from Mala Duba. The ferry from Drvenik (5 min drive) runs regularly and reaches Hvar in about 35 minutes. Hvar Town is famous for its Renaissance architecture, vibrant café scene, and lavender fields. The island also offers some of the best beaches and coves on the Adriatic.

Biokovo Nature Park & Sveti Jure

The Biokovo mountain range rises directly behind Mala Duba. The highest peak, Sveti Jure (1,762 m), is accessible by car via the park road from Makarska. On clear days, the panoramic views stretch across all the central Dalmatian islands and all the way to the Italian coast. The park also has marked hiking trails for those who prefer to explore on foot.

Makarska

The lively regional town of Makarska is just 20 km away. Its palm-lined waterfront promenade, old town, seafood restaurants, and boat-filled harbour make it a perfect half-day trip. The Franciscan monastery and its shell collection museum are also worth a visit.

Imotski — Red and Blue Lakes

About 40 km inland, the town of Imotski is known for two extraordinary karst lakes — the vivid Blue Lake and the dramatic Red Lake, whose sheer rocky walls plunge hundreds of metres. A fascinating natural spectacle unlike anywhere else in Croatia.

Baćinska Lakes

Approximately 20 km south, this chain of freshwater lakes near Ploče offers a completely different landscape — quiet, green, and perfect for nature walks, birdwatching, and fishing.

Further Afield

Dubrovnik — 120 km

The “Pearl of the Adriatic” is one of the best-preserved medieval walled cities in the world and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The famous Old Town walls, the Stradun promenade, and the cable car up to Mount Srđ are unmissable. Allow a full day.

Mostar, Bosnia & Herzegovina — 70 km

The iconic Stari Most (Old Bridge), rebuilt after the 1993 war and now a UNESCO World Heritage Site, spans the turquoise Neretva River. The Ottoman-era old bazaar, traditional crafts, and excellent Herzegovinian food make Mostar an unforgettable half-day trip.

Međugorje — 50 km

One of the most visited Catholic pilgrimage sites in the world, attracting millions of visitors each year. A place of peace and spiritual reflection, regardless of your faith.

Pelješac Peninsula & Ston

The Pelješac peninsula is renowned for its exceptional red wines (Dingač, Postupa) and fresh oysters from Mali Ston Bay. The medieval walls of Ston are among the longest in Europe. A great day trip combining nature, food, and history.
